| 1st School Wide Spelling Bee Competition |
On January 28th, eight representative students from 4th-8th grade participated in a school-wide Spelling Bee. These eight competitors were winners of initial spelling bees held in ELA classes back in November. Students prepared by studying a list of 250 words prior to the bee. After many rounds ensued, we finally came down to two contestants, Mansi C. in 6A and Rony R. in 8A. Each student had very difficult words to spell and gave each other quite a challenge, yet Rony R. confidently won with the championship word “anticoagulant.” He will be moving on to the Dallas County Spelling Bee on February 9th at the University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson. Congratulations to all students who participated, what an excellent showcase of spellers! Thank you ELA teachers for all of your efforts! Click here to see pictures

| HSI-Reading Time |
DEAR Parents,
We would like to draw your attention to a reading program we have been implementing at Harmony School of Innovation - Dallas called Drop Everything And Read. Everyday between 10:30 am and 11:00 AM students, teachers and everyone should drop everything and start reading.
We believe this program, which represents our commitment to litreacy, will help strengthen the reading and comprehensive skills of our students. Students are encouraged to read through several incentives such as certificates and awards for AR quizz points, tickets to Six Flags, classroom picnics and field trips.
Parent support is highly appreciated and crucial in this issue. Please, encourage the students to take online AR quizzes from home. For more question about our AR program contact one of our ELA teachers or an administrator.
